Welcome to Sovereign Sporthorses, dedicated to providing quality training and instruction to both horse and rider. Our program has something for everyone; from the avid competitor, to those that ride just for fun. Our teaching philosophies ensure that our students become well rounded horseman, with a focus on saftey and sportsmanship. Our instructor is a two time National award winning trainer, who loves to share her knowledge with anyone wanting to learn.

We offer a variety of lesson horses and ponies for each level of rider. Our students have the opportunity to show the same horses that they take their lessons on. Students with their own horses, are welcome to either board with us, or haul in for their weekely lessons. We regularly attend both local one day shows, and GHJA sanctioned two day locals. Throughout the year, we also attend USEF rated shows with our more advanced horses and riders.

We have recently under gone a renaming and restructuring of the business. We have moved into the facilities of Southern Star Farm, in Taylorsville, Georgia. This facility offers a quiet, tranquil setting with large grass pastures, 8 large stalls, an outdoor arena and separate jump field. While our name and the location may have changed, you can still expect the same great training from Sovereign Sporthorses!

Come visit us! See what we can offer you! Add yourself, your child, or your horse to our winning show team!

Southern Star Farms offers:

  • 8 Large 12x12 stalls
  • Large grass pastures, with hay in winter
  • 2x daily feeding
  • Stalls picked daily
  • Outdoor, lighted arena with full fencing and sand footing
  • Outdoor, fully fenced, jump field.
  • Hot and cold water in the barn
  • Owner on premises

Our lesson program offers safe, effective instruction for all ages. From the young rider to the adult, and from the very beginner to the competitive show rider, our instructor offers valuble insight for each rider. Right from the start, with a focus on safety, all our our riders learn to handle, groom, and tack their own horses. Horse care and management is added to the curriculum for our more advanced riders.

We believe in building champions from the ground up. Our program puts as much emphasis on the basics, such as learning to post, as we do in teaching lateral movements, jumping bent lines, and rider suppleness. This approach gives students a solid foundation, which allows them to achieve higher levels of proficiency in multiple disciplines. This not only makes our students stronger and more knowledgeable, but more confident as well.

Private Lessons:
Beginner: 25 minutes, $35
Advanced : 45 minutes, $50

Semi-Private Lessons: 1 hour. $45 per person. Limit 2 horse and rider combinations.

Group Lessons:
Jumping Groups: 90 minutes, limit 6 riders. $35 per person.
Beginner Groups: 45 minutes, limit 4 riders. $25 per person.

We offer one free trial lesson, as an introduction to our instructor, or for those that have never been on a horse before. These lessons are short 15-30 minute lessons, and riders will be kept on either a lead rope, or a lunge line. Young riders MUST be able to follow verbal instructions and maintain focus for the entire lesson. Some 4 year olds are mature enough for a pony ride lesson, some are not. If your child is easily distracted or intimidated, it would be wise to wait a year or two.

ALL new students will be required to complete a minimum of one month of private lessons. Once completed, riders that qualify, will then be moved into either Semi-Private or Group lessons, with other riders at their same level. Movement into Semi-Private or Groups lessons will be at the instructor's discretion.

All lessons must be booked in advance. Monthly lesson packages must be paid for no later than the first lesson of the month. Lessons that are not purchased as part of a monthly package will be subject to a $10 per lesson fee. Missed lessons must be made up within 10 days of originally scheduled date, or they will be lost.

We offer high quality training for all levels of horses, from the young green, unbroken prospect, to the seasoned show horse that just needs a tune-up. We haul in to one day local schooling shows, as well as multi-day rated shows, and many events in between. Our students are always in the ribbons.

We offer a "Barn Bucks" program for students and parents that would like to offset some of their horse show expenses. Those willing to volunteer around the barn, and help out while away at horses shows, can earn barn cash that may be used towards their horse show coaching fees.

Coaching fees: Includes ring-side coaching, feeding, watering, and stall cleaning for each horse. Pricing is per each horse/rider combination. Synergy's Unforgiven
Deerhaven's Vivian x Leonardo Norsk
2005 FSHA,ASHA Stallion

"Ozzy" is everything you could want in a truly American bred sport horse stallion. Personality plus, he is kind and gentle, with a great work ethic. All of which he passes along to his offspring.

Ozzy is just starting his show career competing in the Hunter ring. Our hopes are to have him make his pre-green debut in 2014.

Ozzy's sire, Leonardo Norsk, is by the well known Dressage Friesian, Nero. Nero was the grandson of the Preferent stallion Mark 232.

Ozzy's dam, Deerhaven's Vivian, comes from a long line of World Champion Saddlebreds, including the greats such as New Yorker, Wing Commander, Stonewall King, Valley View Supreme, Modern Creation, and Rex Peavine.

Kristina McFarland has been training students and horses for over 15 years. Her riding career started nearly 30 years ago as a young child, at the prestigious Westbrooke Hunt Club. She draws from years of experience with many different philosophies of training. She is able to find the right method for each horse. Her soft touch is not limited to her horses. Her students blossom under her patient and methodical teaching style. Working at each students individual pace, Kristina is able to get the most out of her riders, while challenging them to push themselves to new levels.

To schedule lessons, please call and leave a voice-mail for Kristina. If we are off farm for a show or an event, it may take a few days for a return call. Please be patient. If you need to cancel an appointment, you may send a text, but please give us as much warning as you can.
